Emmett was originally settled in the early 1860's after the gold discoveries
of the Boise Basin. Railways and river transportation provided for expansion
and opportunities to prosper in Martinsville (later named Emmett). Farming,
ranching, fruit-growing and forest products transformed this rural community.
Clean air, tranquil sunsets, ample water supply and community friendliness
are just a few of the advantages of living in Emmett. The closure of the Boise Cascade Plywood, Planer and Dry Kilns Departments in 2001 found Emmett economically stressed. Gem County is actively seeking businesses to provide employment for its citizens as well as give new businesses a friendly, cost effective place to begin or expand. The City of Emmett (population 5,500) is a vibrant, growing, friendly community. With a total population of 15,181, Gem County still has that small town feeling we have kept over the years. Our crime rate is very low and we are proud of being a safe community. We are excited that you have decided to take the time to look us over. We are sure you will be pleased with our outgoing business people, great schools, infrastructure, and the character of our community. |
